Managing Director of The Mendelssohn Project
Born and raised in Germany, Daniela Somary moved to New York City in January 2005. After completing her degree in film, television, and comparative literature at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, she decided to pursue a career in cultural administration in America.
Ms. Somary has worked as assistant director in several theatres in Germany, including a production at the Staatstheater Stuttgart. In New York City, she gained administrative insight at established institutions like the Goethe Institute New York, and the New York International Children's Film Festival. She has also freelanced as a translator and has dubbed several animated children's movies and documentaries.
Her experience as Sales & Marketing Manager for the German academic publishing house, Walter de Gruyter, inspires her endeavors of overseeing operations at The Mendelssohn Project in New York, where she lives with her husband Stephen, and their dog Lola.
Currently working for The Mendelssohn Project since December 2005, her many duties include new project development and implementation, as well as the coordination of the European and American offices.
